Maxime Chanot has been named NYCFC’s Defensive Player of the Year for 2019.

The Luxembourg international recorded 2,790 minutes this season after starting and appearing in 31 regular season matches in 2019.

His performances at the heart of the City defense led the team to first place in the Eastern Conference and secured CONCACAF Champions League qualification for the first time in Club history.

Chanot originally signed with NYCFC in 2016 after spending three years at KV Kortrijk and has gone on to become one of the league's best central defenders, thanks to his long-standing partnership with Alex Callens.

In his time with City, he has become a consistent fixture in the defensive-line since 2016, signing a new multi-year deal with the Club in the 2018/19 offseason.

Born in Nancy, France, Chanot is a regular for the Luxembourg national team and has played in 74 MLS regular season matches to date (80 total), scoring three times.

Chanot succeeds 2018 winner Anton Tinnerholm as Defensive Player of the Year for NYCFC and will be back for more in 2020 as NYCFC go for glory on the domestic and continental stages.

Yesterday, Héber was named Newcomer of the Year and on Wednesday, NYCFC will announce Team MVP. Stay tuned to find out who earns the title.
