New York City FC are making a move for a highly regarded young playmaker out of Uruguay, according to a report from Seattle-based reporter Niko Moreno.

Per Moreno, the Cityzens are in the process of finalizing the acquisition of attacker Santiago Rodriguez, currently of Uruguayan side Nacional.

The development would line up with an announcement from Nacional last month that Rodriguez had signed with the City Football Group, which includes New York City FC. Previous reports had been conflicting, though, as to which City Football Group side Rodriguez would join, with Spanish second-division side Girona also a possibility.

Should it indeed turn out to be NYCFC, the Cityzens would be getting a prospect with a lot of upside. The 20-year-old has earned a reputation as a player with dynamic potential during his time with Nacional, with 11 first-team goals to his name. He also scored his club's second goal in their 6-2 defeat to River Plate in Copa Libertadores play on Thursday.
